BrickByte Labs LLC
Privacy Policy
Effective September 12, 2026. This policy covers this website and the OnTheDaily iOS app.
BrickByte Labs LLC (“BrickByte,” “we,” “us”) builds software, including OnTheDaily, an iPhone journaling app. This policy explains what information is stored, what optional cloud features send off your device, and how to reach us. It is written to match how the products actually work.
1. Who we are
BrickByte Labs LLC. Contact: help@brickbytelabsllc.com.
2. This website
The BrickByte Labs site is a static page. We do not set cookies, run analytics, or collect form submissions on a server.
The contact form opens your own email app with a message addressed to us. If you send that email, we receive the name, address, and message you chose to include, and we use them only to reply. We keep inquiry email as long as needed to help you, then delete it in the ordinary course of mail handling.
3. OnTheDaily — default is on your iPhone
OnTheDaily is local-first. You can use it without creating an account (“Continue Locally”). In that mode, your notebooks, daily notes, and todos stay in a database on the device. We do not receive that journal content.
On the device, the app stores:
- Notebooks, notes (including markdown text), and todos in local storage
- App preferences such as theme and whether you prefer local mode
- A random device account identifier used only on that iPhone to organize local data (it is not your Apple ID or email)
Uninstalling OnTheDaily removes that on-device data. Clearing a day’s note saves empty text; the app does not treat empty notes as journal entries. Deleting a notebook removes it from the device. If that notebook was linked to the cloud, the matching cloud copy is also deleted.
4. Optional cloud account (OnTheDaily Plus)
Cloud sign-in and sync are optional paid features. They are not required to journal on the device. If you create an account and choose to sync a notebook, we use Google Firebase (Authentication and Firestore) to provide that service.
In that case, the following is processed:
- Account: email address and password (password is sent to Google Identity Toolkit over HTTPS; BrickByte does not store your password)
- Session: authentication tokens kept on your device so you stay signed in
- Synced content you choose to upload: notebook names, daily note text, todos, and related timestamps, stored under your Firebase user ID
Signing in does not automatically upload every local notebook or download every remote one. Sync is something you start for a notebook. Free users have one local notebook and cannot use cloud sign-in.
Google acts as our processor for Authentication and Firestore. Google’s own privacy terms also apply to that infrastructure. Data may be stored on servers in the United States or other locations Google uses for Firebase.
5. Purchases
OnTheDaily Plus is an auto-renewable subscription sold through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple processes payment. We receive subscription status through StoreKit (for example, whether Plus is active) so the app can unlock extra notebooks and optional cloud features. We do not receive your full Apple ID password or complete payment-card details.
Manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple ID settings (or In-App Subscriptions). Deleting a cloud account or the app does not by itself cancel Plus.
6. Help and support
If you email help@brickbytelabsllc.com from the app or this site, we receive whatever you send (address, subject, message). We use it to provide support and do not sell it.
7. What we do not do
- No advertising networks in OnTheDaily
- No third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs in OnTheDaily
- No selling of personal information
- No tracking of you across other companies’ apps or websites
8. Sharing
We share information only:
- With Google, to operate optional Firebase authentication and sync
- With Apple, to process subscriptions and as required by the App Store
- If required by law, or to protect BrickByte, our users, or the public
- With a successor if the lab is transferred, under this same kind of privacy commitment
9. Retention
- On device: until you delete the relevant notebook, clear the note, or delete the app
- Cloud account and synced copies: until you delete the account or delete the linked notebook
- Support email: as long as needed to handle your request
10. Your choices
- Use OnTheDaily entirely locally and never sign in
- Sign out of the cloud account; local notes remain on the iPhone
- Delete a linked notebook (removes the local notebook and the cloud copy of that notebook)
- Delete your cloud account by emailing help@brickbytelabsllc.com or, when signed in, from OnTheDaily Settings. That removes the Firebase Authentication user and associated Firestore notebooks, notes, and todos. It does not erase notes that exist only on your iPhone, and it does not cancel OnTheDaily Plus
If you are in a region with access or deletion rights (including the EEA, UK, or California), email us. We will honor requests we can fulfill for data we control. Apple must handle Apple ID and subscription billing requests.
11. Children
OnTheDaily and this website are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.
12. Changes
If this policy changes in a material way, we will update this page and the effective date. Continued use of the site or OnTheDaily after an update means you accept the revised policy.
